Hi, everyone! I’m extra excited about today’s blog post: 1) because to say I’m completely obsessed with skincare is an understatement and 2) my friends keep bugging me to publish it. It may be a tad longer than usual, but stick with me..
Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?
And to do that, we need to go back to summer 2017. Ya know, the best summer of my life. It’s also when I COMPLETELY changed my skincare routine.
Want to know what my routine was then? I washed my face in the morning and night. That’s it. THAT IS FREAKING IT. What was wrong with me? I don’t know. I seriously hated any kind of lotion on my face. I remember vividly the day in my apartment when I told my friends Jaden and Emily that I never moisturize my face. They couldn’t believe I said that. Thankfully they’re the kind of friends who tell it like it is, and let me tell you.. I got a full on lecture. It was time for me to treat my skin better.
Since then, I’ve gained more and more interest in skincare — testing out different products to figure out what worked best with my skin. I’d say I have combination skin, so I knew i wanted to balance making sure my skin is hydrated but also doesn’t look oily. I’ve spent months figuring out my favorites, which is why I really wanted to test everything out before sharing with all y’all. I’ve also made an effort to get more facials, asking lots of questions about the products I’ve been using and what I should be using.
I’ll walk through my morning and night routines (they don’t differ too much!) and the products I’ve grown to love.
I start by washing my face with my Clarisonic Mia 1. I got it for Christmas and it’s truly been a game changer for me. It makes my face feel so much cleaner when I use it. I love that I can bring it in the shower with me, too! I bought the deep pore brush head to swap it out for the original to get a little bit deeper clean. For a cleanser, I use either the Clarisonic cleanser that came with it or First Aid Beauty’s Face Cleanser. I really like them both.
I also use Dermalogica’s Daily Superfoliant, mainly to fight blackheads. I keep this in the shower. One thing to note, it’s actually more of a powder. I thought this was weird and a little intimidating at first, but it’s really easy to use. You just put a tiny (I think the directions say 1/2 a teaspoon) in your hand and mix it with some water to create a paste.
Then, I often put a mask on. If we’re friends on Snapchat, this comes at no surprise. Sorry not sorry for all the face mask selfies. The real way to impress a guy is to show him what ya look like with a full mask on, right?
The Caudalie Instant Detox Mask and Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment are my go-tos. My biggest problems occur in the t-zone, and I’ve found these work best. If my skin is feeling particularly dry, I’ll opt for a hydrating mask instead. The Fresh Vitamin Nectar mask is great. I laugh when I put it on every time though, because it really feels like I’m smearing jam all over my face.
Then, I use this Fresh Rose Toner. I apply it all over my face and neck with a cotton square. I took the spray top off, FYI.
This Dermalogica eye cream is the next step. The applicator makes it easy to put on. I also sometimes use the Olay Eyes Ultimate Cream and the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector. The Dermalogica cream is a littler pricer, so the second two are good options if you don’t want to spend as much.
I LOVE THIS SERUM. This was a product I was recommended to get after getting a facial, especially with dry winter skin. Also pricer but so worth it IMO. A more affordable option that I also like is the First Aid Beauty serum, which I use at night a lot. I definitely prefer the ClarityRx one for in the morning though. Whenever I put on a serum on (morning and night), I like to wait a few minutes before putting on a moisturizer to let it really soak in. Obviously if you’re in a rush, 30 seconds is probably sufficient.
Glamglow’s Dreamduo is an overnight treatment that I’ve more recently added to my routine. I don’t use this every night, but a couple nights a week. There are two steps for it, and I won’t do my normal serum/moisturizer combo if I use this for the night.
Lastly, I can’t forget my lips! The Caudalie Lip Conditioner is something I’ll use both in the morning and at night. The Bite Agave Lip Mask I typically only use at night because it’s pretty thick. It comes in color options, but I just got clear since I wear it to bed. I keep both of these on my nightstand for everyday use.
And that’s all!
Hopefully that wasn’t too overwhelming. I swear it’s so much easier to stick to a routine when you do it everyday and get into the rhythm of it. I do use some other products here and there but the products in this post are truly my everyday go-tos.
